History of County Square Shopping Centre

County Square Shopping centre in Kent was originally built as an open centre in 1975 and was known as the Tufton Centre. In 1987 a new owner and landlord proposed developing the Tufton Centre in line with current trends.

The centre was refurbished between 1989 and 1991 which included new floor and wall finishes, new public toilet facilities with lift access and a new glass roof fully enclosing the old open centre. It was then re-launched as County Square.

In 2005 the centre’s new owners started an extensive refurbishment and development programme. In March 2008 the newly refurbished and extended centre was opened with 50 shops and a total of 500,000 sq ft of retail space.

The centre benefits from an extensive fashion offer together with homeware and beauty. The new toilet facilities offer 21st century energy saving technology complementing a new revitalised look. The centre has more than 600 under cover parking spaces, increased disabled facilities and new baby changing rooms.
